How to use Happy Shrimp to write a song

Reviewed August 19, 2026

SHORT ANSWER

To use Happy Shrimp, open happyshrimp.ai (or happyshrimp.cn in China), sign in to claim the free beta credits, and type one sentence describing the song you want — a situation plus genre, vocal character and instruments. Choose Smart Lyrics to let the model write the words or switch on Instrumental for a track with no vocal, then generate; the beta returns two versions per run so you can compare directions. Listen, change one variable in the brief, and generate again. The same brief structure works in the studio on this site, with one difference: there you supply your own lyrics or select Instrumental.

Step 1 — Get access

Happy Shrimp is desktop web only. Use happyshrimp.ai outside China and happyshrimp.cn inside it. Signing up grants free credits, and during launch month Alibaba has been adding more for each daily login.

There is no mobile app, so anything promising a Happy Shrimp app is not selling you the official product.

Step 2 — Write the brief, not the adjective

The single biggest quality difference is where you start. "Sad song" gives the model nothing to hold on to. "A voicemail you never sent, the night before moving out" gives it a lyrical theme, a dynamic shape and a mood at once.

Then add production: one clear genre anchor, the vocal character by range and delivery, two or three signature instruments, a tempo, and one instruction about how the song should change between verse and chorus. That is usually four clauses and it is enough.

  • Situation or feeling — what the song is about
  • Genre anchor — one, before any hybrid influence
  • Voice — range and delivery, never a real artist's name
  • Instruments — two or three that define the palette
  • Tempo or energy — a BPM, or a described pace
  • Arc — what happens between the verse and the chorus

Step 3 — Choose who writes the words

In Happy Shrimp, Smart Lyrics writes them for you from the theme in your prompt, in Chinese or English. Instrumental removes the vocal entirely. The beta generates two songs per run so you can hear two readings of the same brief.

In the studio on this site, you supply your own lyrics with section labels — [Verse], [Pre Chorus], [Chorus], [Bridge], [Outro] — or Instrumental mode. That is more work up front and more control over the result.

Step 4 — Revise one variable at a time

Regenerating a whole new brief teaches you nothing. Keep the prompt and move a single element: the tempo, the vocal range, the chorus instruction, or one instrument. Two or three passes like that usually beat ten random rewrites.

Keep the versions you rejected. A direction that felt wrong for this song is often exactly right for the next one.

FAQ

Do I need music theory to use Happy Shrimp?

No. Plain description works, and that is the point of the product. Music vocabulary is optional precision, not a requirement.

How long can a Happy Shrimp song be?

The beta generates complete songs rather than fixed clips, and prompts accept up to 5,000 characters. Exact length limits are a beta setting and change; check the official site.

Can I use my own voice or a reference track?

Happy Shrimp accepts reference audio for style and timbre. The studio on this site does not — it is text and lyrics in, audio out.

Why does my track drift after the first chorus?

Usually the brief describes a mood but never describes change. Add one explicit arc instruction: what enters at the chorus, what drops out in the bridge, where it opens up.
